STRAIGHT SEAL
WATER-BASED ACRYLIC INDUSTRIAL GRADE INDOOR CONCRETE SEAL

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION: Straight Seal is an opaque, white emulsion formulation developed specifically to efficiently seal and protect concrete without the unpleasant odor associated with solvent-type sealers. This one-step, ready-to-use formula is recommended for use in light traffic areas and as a top-coat to increase the gloss of New Generation 40 and New Generation 50.

EXTENDS THE LIFE OF CONCRETE FLOORING: A thermoplastic resin forms the base of Straight Seal to provide durability...penetrating, sealing and protecting characteristics. Use of Straight Seal eliminates surface dusting; resists the penetration of gasoline, grease, oil and other damaging soils -- the end result being a longer lasting concrete floor.

Due to Straight Seal's durability, it cannot be removed with any Spartan stripper. Mechanical removal or, where permissible, a solvent such as CSD-43 or nonmethylene chloride is required.

SAFE: While protective gloves and safety glasses are always recommended, respiratory masks are not usually required.

NONFLAMMABLE/PLEASANT TO USE: Nonflammable. Straight Seal goes down as easy as any floor finish but provides industrial strength protection to concrete floors. Since no petroleum distillates are incorporated into the formula, users will not experience the offensive harmful vapors associated with solvent-based sealers. Because it is water-based, tools can be cleaned up with water and any Spartan General Purpose Cleaner.

In addition, the U. S. Dept. of Labor, Mine Safety & Health Administration advises Straight Seal has passed the necessary flammability tests to determine product safety for use underground. This information can be helpful particularly when calling on accounts who are concerned about flammability, i.e., movie theaters, subway entrances and exits, underground walkways...in effect, areas used by the general public which are subject to fire inspection.

The product dries to a clear, bright gloss.

VOC COMPLIANT: Straight Seal offers a low VOC (Volatile Organic Compound) rating of 105 gram per liter. This is particularly important since several states restrict the use of products which emit more than 350 grams of vapor per liter.

CONCRETE CARE VIDEO: A Concrete Care Video is available to assist the training of maintenance personnel in proper concrete preparation and application of water-based concrete seals.

HOW TO USE: Wet floors may be slippery. Prevent pedestrian traffic with signs or barricades. Apply to sound, clean surfaces only. New concrete should be allowed to cure at least 14 days.

      Prepare Floor:
1.
Remove loose crumbling concrete, curing membranes, paint and old seals. Clean and degrease floor with Spartan SC-200 or SNB-130 Cleaner/Degreaser and rinse thoroughly.
2.
      Repair defects.
3.
Acid etching will increase life of seal and is recommended. Straight Seal can be used to restore gloss to New Generation 40 and 50 epoxy coated floors. Do not apply New Generation 100 products over Straight Seal. Use Spartan Concrete Prep according to directions. Rinse thoroughly. Let dry. Sweep or vacuum.
      Apply Seal:
1.
Apply first coat of STRAIGHT SEAL at a target coverage rate of 750-1000 sq. ft./gal.
2.
Recoat after previous coat is completely dry. Target rate: 1500 sq. ft./gal. Avoid thick coats.
3.
Recoat until the desired level of gloss is achieved.
4.
Clean up with water and a Spartan General Purpose Cleaner
5.
Floor can be walked on when final coat is completely dry. Avoid heavier traffic for 24 hours.
      SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS:
1.
If the floor is smooth, Straight Seal can be mopped on or can be applied with a lambs wool or mohair applicator, a roller or conventional sprayer. (Textured or porous surfaces snag and shred mops.)
2.
Dry time will depend on temperature, relative humidity, porosity and air circulation. Typical dry time will be 1-2 hours.
3.
Do not force dry with fans or strong drafts.
4.
New concrete should be allowed to cure at least 14 days before applying Straight Seal. Do not apply Straight Seal before initiating moisture test using ASTM D-4263 Method.

MAINTENANCE: For correct procedures in maintaining the sealed floor, follow the bulletin titled, "Tips for Maintaining Coated Concrete Floors".

CAUTION: May cause eye irritation. Use in well ventilated areas.
First Aid: Eyes -- In case of contact, immediately flush eyes with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. If irritation persists, call a physician. Keep away from children.
